In our latest blog post, our Children's & Families Minister, Debbie, shares how we can experience a happy birthday every day!
Happy Birthday!
If I haven't already told you, I became a Grandma, for the first time on 20th January 2023.
I may have already shown you pictures of my beautiful little granddaughter Margaux Rae. If I haven't, please stop me when you see me, I will happily share a picture with you. Its been emotional and such a joy to watch the new parents, supporting each other in the lack of sleep, feeding, changing nappies and getting out for a daily walk. They are all doing amazingly well.
When Margaux was born, I was in Plymouth, with my other son, looking at his wedding venue, deciding on the food, drinks and accommodation. I had no phone signal! Can you imagine? Only the grandmas knew the baby was on the way, so I couldn't share and was praying constantly for Mum and baby to be safe. As soon as I left the venue, I pulled over, it happened to be in the gateway to a field. I checked my phone and there, having arrived an hour earlier, was my first sight of Margaux, Mum, and Dad too! I thanked God for the miracle of a new birth, safe delivery and smiled with tears of utter joy. I looked out of the car window and took a picture. The sun was setting, and I could see the shadows of the trees. I thought how stunning God's world is. I sat for a little while, praying with a thankful heart for all that had happened and all that will be. It was one of those moments where I wanted time to stop, so that I could shout out what had happened, what a marvellous miracle I had just experienced. Happy birthday to Margaux.
Just as we all have a birthday, we also have a second birthday, just like royalty. As Christians we remember the day, we accepted Jesus as our Saviour and became a child of God. As 1 John Ch 3 V 1, says: See what great love the Father has lavished on us that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!
It is the day of our rebirth in Jesus, not a perfect re birth, only God is perfect, but a day of change, in our lives, attitudes and behaviour. God loves us outrageously. We can absorb and hear His word, can we put it into action and make sure the world knows Jesus too? We can talk to Jesus wherever we are, there is never a lack of signal when it comes to prayer. We can be the person Jesus wants us to be. Jesus lavishes us with love. He looks after our every need and nurtures us if we let Him. Jesus gives us the choice, what do you choose?
My prayer is that we all experience a happy birthday, every day. New things happening and a growing awareness and likeness of Jesus in us. Let's share Him with our friends and family. We can invite them to be a child of God, there is room for all and for all a room.
This is God's promise to us.
Blessings and happy days
Debbie, Children & Families Minister
