How is God holding you up this week? Here's our latest blog post from Jude, Licensed Lay Minister at St George & St Paul, Tiverton
Have you ever woken up in the morning full of rather bleak thoughts, when bouncing out of bed in the excitement of the day just isn’t there? Or maybe you are thinking "well I couldn’t bounce out of bed even if I tried!"
Some days are like that and years ago one of the favourite songs on our car journeys was John Denver and his “Some days are diamonds, some days are stones.” The four of us would sing along at the tops of our voices, not thinking too hard about the lyrics.
So today was rather a ‘stone’ day at the outset and I struggled to look for the ‘diamonds’ in a stream of negatives that even a mug of tea couldn’t put right. After quite a few honest words with God and a bit of writing in my journal, a shaft of light appeared in the form of the set verses at the bottom of my page for the day.
Philippians 4:7 (The Message)
6-7 'Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the centre of your life.'
So many times these verses and also the comments at the top of the page. fit the bill!
The light got brighter, some diamonds shone out, as I had a vision of scaffolding holding me up.
God is always there alongside, holding us up, we just have to see His scaffolding and He just loves us to try to find Him in the day, using what He gives us. He wants and wills us to have a go, no matter where and how we are, we are blessed.
I am so aware that many of you may be facing very big 'stones' or rocks far bigger than my pebbles. At some point we can all fear what we have lost or what we might lose but journaling is another wonderful way of talking to God: looking back over the months and years, you can see where He has been at work!
Hope you all find that scaffolding this week,
Blessings Jude (Licensed Lay Minister)
